Identifying Possible Construction in Muskingum Co.
The Transportation Improvement District works to identify possible construction projects for our area.
The state has portioned out $3.5 million statewide for such projects. In the last three years Muskingum County and the City of Zanesville have successfully received funds for Northpointe slip repair, the Grantcliff Bridge project and the 146 turn lane.
At their meeting Wednesday the TID asked both county and city leaders to begin to think about projects that may qualify for funding.
“I think it helps the city and the county stretch limited dollars and get projects done so everyone benefits from that standpoint,” said TID chairman Mike Bennett.
The TID will meet again in April to choose which projects they’ll submit to the Ohio Department of Transportation.
“It’s a very competitive project. In the last three years we’ve gotten almost three quarters of a million dollars in state money to come here for projects so it’s competitive across the state so it’s incumbent upon us to identify good projects,” explained Bennett.
One project mentioned for possible funding was the extension of Bethesda Drive to Maple Avenue. Funds will be available July 1 the start of the new fiscal year.
