Pinewood Derby Races
Over fifty scouts in the Zane Trace Scout District headed to the races today.
The Zanesville First Church of the Nazarene hosted the district Pinewood Derby race for Cub Scouts. Eleven different packs from throughout the area entered into the race and race chairman, Dan Riley, explains the day’s event.
“Each car will race against each other car the best we can. Each car is gonna race 18 times today and they get points in the order of finish, and the fast cars are gonna score more points, and we will determine the champion from the points.”
Competing scouts ranged in age from 6 to 11, and Riley says the competing scouts got to spend time working with their parents to design and build their derby cars.
“It gives them the opportunity to work with their parents to create the car to begin with and then to come out in their pack races and then at this level to interact with other scouts from other units and hopefully have a lot of fun both in creating their car and racing them. ”
Today’s race lasted about four hours and although there could only be one grand champion all of the scouts won a fun day.
