Dealing with a Dumpster in New Concord

Jim Hough has dealt with an overflowing dumpster near his property for several years now.

After trying, and failing, to resolve the situation with the landlord of the apartments at 175 Fox Creek Road in New concord, he met with the Muskingum County Commissioners to see what can be done.

According to the Ohio Revised Code, dumpsters must be emptied once every seven days. Hough said that is done each Sunday or Monday morning. He added, however, that overflowing trash doesn’t always get picked up.

“They come in and pick up the container and that’s it,” Hough said. “Everything that’s on the ground stays there. And sometimes it gets picked up later on by somebody [but] usually not.”

Hough said the problem started with a previous landlord, and has continued with the current one. Hough said he’s talked to the landlord in the past about the problem, but nothing happened.

“It’s been probably a year ago I talked to him when he was at the apartment building, and I asked him about it,” Hough said. “He said he was gonna move it or put a fence around it and that’s never happened.”

The latest problem Hough has with the dumpster is a couch that he said has been sitting next to the dumpster for weeks. We reached out to the landlord to see what is being done but he declined to comment.
