Community Foundation Offers many Scholarships
Money is available to better your education. The Muskingum County Community Foundation has thousands of scholarship dollars to give away this year.
April first is the deadline for 11 scholarship applications. Both high school seniors and students already enrolled in college can apply. Director of educational services at the Community Foundation, Heather Sands, said the scholarships aren’t just for the 4.0 students.
“Some of [the scholarships] have like 2.5 GPA requirement, so if you’re concerned, maybe you’re grades aren’t high enough to apply, there are some scholarships that are out there that only require an A,B or C average,” Sands said. “So it’s not necessarily a scholarship for the 4.0 or the high ACT score students.”
Sands knows that the scholarship process can sometimes be overwhelming. She said that’s why the Community Foundation has extended hours through Wednesday. Workers will be available between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to work with students on their applications.
“They have to make sure that they are prepared to write their essays,” Sands said. “They’re not very difficult, the essays are actually pretty simple. You just have to make sure you put your heart and sole into completing those essays. So that way when the committee reads those essays, you’re prepared to give them all 110 percent of yourself into that application.”
Over $60,000 worth of scholarships will be given out at schools’ spring awards ceremonies. The following scholarships are available. To learn more about them you can visit www.MCCF.org
