Observing Holy Week
Holy Week is now upon us, and many area residents are taking part in the different services that churches have to offer.
Many Christians observe Good Friday, the day that Jesus Christ was crucified. We spoke to Aaron Bounds, Pastor of the Anchor Church in Zanesville, who told us a little bit more about it.
“This is the day that Jesus gave up the Ghost. He stretched His hands out, took nails in His hands, took nails in His feet, the crown of thorns on His head and took our punishment. He was a sinless Man. He never made a mistake. Of course all of us have sinned so He was the perfect Sacrifice who gave Himself so we could have new life.”
The week is also made up of Holy Thursday and Holy Saturday. Bounds says partaking in the week serves many different benefits to a person’s spiritual life.
“It’s just an acknowledgment of faith and saying I believe this is not just a historical moment…the benefits of that is just the acknowledgment of faith. Sometimes life is busy so we forget with the monotony of life. It’s just to take a day and say I’m going to acknowledge Him.”
Bounds says if you can’t take part in one of your churches Holy Week services, you can spend quiet time praying and reflecting. If you would like to find a Good Friday or Easter Sunday service, many area churches have the service times posted online.
