Blighted West Main Properties Set for Cleanup and Demolition
ZANESVILE, OH – The Muskingum County Land Reutilization Corporation held a meeting ton January 16th to review bids for an asbestos remediation project on West Main.
The corporation received three bids for the project. Aster Oilfield Services, A + I Health Solutions, and Erie Environmental all submitted proposals. The winning bid of $27,970 was awarded to Erie Environmental.
“We’re just getting started on the ultimate demolition of what we’re calling the West Main Project. It goes from Pine Street to Luck Avenue along West Main. Some of the prior businesses were McCarty’s Bar, there was an ambulance service on the corner there, and Jims Auto Top was in one of the middle buildings as well. We bid the asbestos removal for all those buildings. The low bidder and the awarded contract was Erie Environmental out of Port Clinton, Ohio,” Muskingum County Land Bank Executive Director Andy Roberts said.
These properties have been a concern for the community for over a decade, and removing these buildings is a key part of the county’s plan to revitalize the neighborhood and make way for future development.
“These properties have stood as blights on the community for the last, I want to say, decade. There’s been other investment in this area, and we’re trying to get this neighbor revitalized. As part of that, removing these blights is a huge part. This is all state funding that we’ve received as part of a grant for demolition across the county, and this is one of the projects within that,” Roberts said.
Demolition will begin after the asbestos is safely removed.
