ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Not only is Wednesday the first day of school for students and teachers at Zanesville High School, but it’s the first day for interim principal Laura Tompkins.
Something new for the 2016/2017 school year is the implementation of the use of backpacks. Tompkins said the last two years ZHS students were not able to bring backpacks to school. After doing research Tompkins learned backpacks are no longer a safety concern as the school once thought.
“We feel like the kids are going to be able get to class on time without being held up,” Tompkins said.
During Tompkins’ time as interim principal, she’ll be bringing fun back in the classroom. Tompkins’ goal is for students to make learning fun and enjoyable for both students and teachers.
“We’re going to move the culture in a positive direction,” Tompkins said. “We want the kids to have fun while they are here as well as learning the most they can in a day.”
Tompkins said her first day has been wonderful thus far. She said she’s looking forward to getting this first week underway.
