Farmers market to open first weekend of May

It’s the season for fresh produce here in Zanesville.

The Zanesville Farmer’s Market will open at 9 a.m. on May 2 to celebrate 40 years of selling fresh produce in the local community. Market Manager Betty Tolliver said while vegetables may not be ready, fruit will be ready for sale.

“On the plus side for this year, the peach trees made it through so it looks like we’re going to have a bumper crop of peaches this year so that made us real happy,” said Tolliver.

The day looks to feature 65 vendors, and many will be selling hanging plants. Tolliver said to also look forward to plenty of tomato plants.

“You’re going to see hanging baskets, plants, plants of every kind,” said Tolliver. “Tomato plants, you wont believe how many different varieties of tomato plants there are out there.”

Customers will need to enter through Gate 1 or through the North Stage entrance of the Muskingum County Fair Grounds. The Zanesville Farmer’s Market runs from May until August. The market can only accept cash or check. They ask that shoppers attempt to use small bills if possible.
