July 4th is Race Day at the Rec Center
Even though race day is still a couple of month away, registration is now open for a 4th of July 5k.
The Muskingum Recreation Center will have its 3rd annual Red, White and Run race on the morning of the fourth. Health and Special Populations Coordinator at the Rec Center, Brooke Smith explained more.
“Saturday July 4th will be our 3rd annual Red, White and Run event, and it’s a 5k,” she said. “It is open to walkers too, so if walking is more your thing then we just invite people to come out and participate and start the 4th of July off in a fun and healthy way.”
Smith said last year’s race had about a 32 percent increase in participation, and the Rec Center is hoping to increase the participants again. But the race isn’t the only thing happening on race day.
“We do the awards ceremony. It is broken down by age groups,” Smith said. “We did add an age group this year, 70 and older, and we also are doing the most patriotic male and female, so there will be a contest for that as well.”
Registration before July 2nd is $25, and after then the price bumps up to $30. However, to be guaranteed a shirt, the Rec Center asks you to register by June 18th.
