Free Physicals for High School Athletes

High School athletes must complete a yearly physical to be eligible to participate in athletics.

Because of this, the Orthopaedic Associates of Zanesville perform yearly physicals free of charge. Any area student athlete wishing to complete his or her physical can do so Saturday, May 9 at the Orthopaedic Associates’ office on Bell Street.

“We try to offer this to the community, we know all the kids in the local area for high school needs sports physicals,” Sports Medicine Specialist, Dr. Sam Finck, said. “It’s something we’re just trying to offer as a team effort between the local primary care physicians and our group here.”

Doctor Finck said most of the kids who come in for a physical check out completely healthy. He added with nearly 20 doctors performing the physicals, it’s a quick and easy way for athletes to get their physicals done.

“From our standpoint, we want to be able to be a presence in the sports community and be able to give them something of value that we can give them for free, and if they end up needing anything, God forbid, down the road, we’re here for that as well,” Finck said.

Orthopaedic Associates will start physicals at 8:00 a.m. Saturday. They ask people to be there before 11:00 a.m. No registration is needed, and Finck said they gave around 400 physicals at last year’s event and are expecting a similar crowd.
