Recovery House To Open In Muskingum County

A new recovery house is being prepared in Muskingum County.

The structure is located at 1448 Euclid Avenue and will have four separate apartments. It will be able to house 7 males. Those who are taking part in early recovery treatment in Muskingum County or other surrounding county agencies are eligible. CEO of Muskingum Behavioral Health, Steve Carell told us more about the concept.

"What recovery housing is is a place for people to live. It’s their apartment. But it’s going to be a supporting environment for recovery. There is going to be recovery coaches to make sure that they are you know, doing well. If they have any questions about recovery, they’re going to support each other. Most of the people are going to be involved in treatment as well."

Carell says it provides a safe, sober and drug-free environment for those who will live there. Renters will sign a lease and utilities will be split among the renters as the initial monthly rental fee. Carell told us more about how the home was funded.

"We received a capital grant from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to purchase the facility. We’re responsible for all the renovations."

Carell says the renovations will be completed from top to bottom. They are going to cost a bit more than what they planned so Carell is asking the community for donations. Carell hopes to have the first two apartments finished within the next three weeks.
