Construction Could Slow Down Travel

Lower gas prices in recent years means more drivers are expected to take to the roads this long Memorial Day Weekend.

AAA Travel projects 37.2 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during this weekend. A 4.7 percent increase from last year. 1.44 million of those will be from Ohio, with 1.3 million traveling by automobile.

But, heavy traffic combined with widespread highway construction could slow them down.

The group said drivers will likely pay lower Memorial Day gas prices than in recent years. The national average price for a gallon of gas was reported at $2.72 as of Wednesday.

Additionally, travelers in the Buckeye State will have to deal with nearly 1,000 highway construction zones around the state.

The Memorial Day holiday travel period is defined as Thursday, May 21 to Monday, May 25.
