Pies Fly at the Court House

Community members gathered as local celebrities took a sweet treat right to the face today.

The confection covered volunteers were doing it all for a good cause. Among the pied faces were Mayor Jeff Tilton, Sheriff Matt Lutz, and Director of Christ’s Table Keely Warden. Warden said that she took the dessert to the face because she knew that the community needs help.

"I’m here because I see the hungry people of Muskingum County everyday and I recognize the importance of Operation Feed and what it does for this community and what it does for the people that we serve," said Warden.

Member of the Steering Committee for Operation Feed June Smith led the event for the third year. The day featured a food stand, seven baskets to be raffled off, and of course the main event where an audience watched as whip cream pies went into the faces of beloved community members. Smith said it was hard work to pull the event off.

"So I’ve had to call three of four people for some of these pie faces before someone would really hit them with a pie so it’s been challenging but fun," said Smith.

The event raised over $2,000 and pie volunteer Chris Zemba raised the most money, bringing in $250 with his pie to the face. All the proceeds will benefit Operation Feed.
