Getting a Summer Job

Each year, OhioMeansJobs hosts a summer jobs program.

It’s designed to give kids between the ages of 16 and 24 a job during the summer. Julie Metzger, supervisor at OhioMeansJobs, says the program gives kids an opportunity to learn different skills.

“Just an array of different skills that they can pick up to build the resumes,” she said. “The program runs until the end of October, so we are looking for applicants right now for that program.”

Around 100 people can participate each year. They learn skills in gardening, landscaping, child care with a possibility of learning even more. Metzger said it’s an easy way to grow your skill set.

“What they can do is continue to build skills,” she said. “A lot of times if the employers are down the road looking for permanent employment, they go back to those kids and maybe if they do a good job for them, show up everyday on time, there’s a possibility they could be hired.”

OhioMeansJobs is currently accepting applications at its office at 455 Woodlawn Avenue.
