Quinn Family Bash Celebrates 16 Years
According to the President of the Six County Affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in four people experience mental illness in their lifetime.
Paul Quinn said the daily battle with the illness keeps many from having fun because simply getting out of bed seems overwhelming. The Quinn Family Singers hosted the 16th annual Quinn Family Bash to give those suffering, one day to forget the bad and celebrate their recovery.
“People who are suffering from depression and who knows what else can take a break from that… one day to just come just have some fun,” said Quinn.
The idea for the bash came 16 years ago when Quinn’s brother was facing his own recovery from schizophrenia.
“Yeah 16 years ago, my brother, who was on recovery from schizophrenia, sat down with my father and I and we decided to do something fun for the mental health community and it’s turned into this Quinn Family Bash,” said Quinn.
The bash was hosted at the Welcome Center in downtown Zanesville and about 200 people gathered to celebrate recovery together.
