MCCF hosts Read In
Readers came together to talk about the power of a story today.
The Muskingum County Community Foundation hosted its ‘Read In’ from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The literary conversation drifted from Shakespeare to R.L. Stine and everything in between. Ohio College Guide Levi Funk hopes the event raises awareness about their ‘take a book’, leave a book program.
“I think it would be really cool just to have people come down here purely for the take a book leave a book,” said Funk. “We do a lot of other stuff as far as college and career readiness down here at Scholarship Central. We give a whole bunch of money away every year and I think that’s what people know us for but we’re more of an education. ”
The College Guides are also working to improve the literacy rates in the area and they hope that by helping youth discover a passion for stories, they can accomplish that goal.
“Spending the time and letting your imagination run wild is more important than just seeing pictures and seeing movies,” said Funk.
Anyone interested in taking a book can visit the Muskingum County Community Foundation during business hours and don’t forget to leave one for another reader to enjoy.
