Zanesville Civic League Prepares for 30th Taste of Color
Zanesville, OH- Calling all foodies! The 30th Annual Taste of Color is just around the corner.
The event, hosted by the Zanesville Civic League has become a beloved tradition every Black History Month. Food plays a significant role in African American culture and this event offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity of not only the African American community, but Zanesville as a whole.
“Even though this event is being held in February, which is black history month, we do still try to practice the word diversity and equality,” explained Board Member Adonis Brooks. “We have seen that in the past years with the demographics, there’s no gap between age and ethnicity, its a melting pot of people and it’s just a great way for somebody who may have not seen a relative or friend in a long time.”
Attendees can look forward to a variety of performances, great food and an award ceremony for children from different community centers who entered the essay and poetry contest. There will be around 15 different dishes to sample and all proceeds from the event support the community center.
“We’re going back to the old format of the taste of color meaning that we’re going to have people come down and kind of have comradery, we’re going to have local performances and they’ll actually get a bigger range of the menu,” said Brooks.
Taste of Color will take place the Zanesville Civic League Community Center Saturday, February 22 from 1pm-3pm. Tickets are just a $12 donation at the door.
