Adult Read-A-Thon

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Library System’s Summer Reading Challenge is well under way but a special occasion has been added for adults to help build toward the communitywide goal.

MCLS Marketing and Community Relations Director Sean Fennell described the Friday, July 10th, Adult Read-A-Thon as a unique after-hours opportunity for adults to get in, out of the weather and experience the comforts of the recently remodeled John McIntire Library alongside fellow book enthusiasts.

“We have, I think, something that is very exciting for a lot of adults. Especially the book worms or maybe people who have always thought it would be cool to be in the library after hours. Well we are offering that this coming Friday for all of our adults in the area. We have a really fun program coming up, where you get to come into the library, you’re going to want to be here at 5:45 because the doors will lock at 6 o’clock,” Fennell said.

Readers will have the following hour and a half to two hours to indulge in reading what they have brought or from what they choose off the shelf. Refreshments and a summer reading program blanket will be available for the attendees.

“We do need to have people register for this event. We ask that you either do it online or give us a call. Make sure you grab your spot before they fill up. It should be a very very fun evening. I know that I’ve talked to people even before this program came about and they were like oh, what is it like in the library when it closes down. Well now is your opportunity to kind of come in and see a little bit of that behind the scenes stuff and what it’s like to be in the library when it’s shut down because it does feel really cool,” Fennell said.

Currently, the Summer Reading Challenge is sitting at 1.4 million minutes of the 2.5 million goal set to be read before the end of July.
