County Finds New Home For Sr. Center

The Muskingum County Commissioners are buying the Zanesville City Schools Administration building. Commission President Jim Porter says once the building is renovated it will become the new Center for Seniors. Porter says the county bought the building for $475,000.Porter says Center for Senior officials got an estimate on how much it would cost to renovate the building and they learned it would be around $2,000,000, but Porter thought it could be done for less money.  Superintendent Terry Martin says administration staff will be relocating into half of the Rufus Putnam building and will share it with the Community School. It has been a difficult year for area seniors; first their facility at Sunrise Center needed repairs after a leaky roof made for unsafe conditions and forced the temporary closing of the facility. The Center for Seniors staff also placed a half-mill bond issue on the May primary ballot hoping it would pass to build a new center, only to see if fail.
