Safety Council Offered To Local Employers

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce is offering employers an opportunity to join a Safety Council.

President of the Zanesville Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce, Tom Poorman said it is a bureau of workers compensation rebate program that allows employers to save money on their workman’s compensation. Poorman told us more.

“They can save from a little, to a lot. Some employers save thousands, some just save a couple hundred dollars and some Safety Council Members might be self ensured or something like that so they’re not eligible for the rebate, but they still join Safety Council because there is a lot of safety training provided.”

An employer can earn up to 4 percent on their rebate. The first meeting will be held on June 24 and the topic will be health risk assessments. Poorman explained more about why they offer this to the community.

“We do this as a service to the community. It’s a great program, it helps employers save money on their workers compensation and some of them can save substantial amounts and it’s also a service in the information that’s provided. There’s a different training topic that’s covered each month at the monthly meetings so there’s a lot of great information disseminated and there’s the chance to earn the rebates. So it really helps local businesses.”

Even if you do not wish to earn the rebate, you can still attend the informational meetings. Poorman said that they have offered this program for over 20 years. The enrollment period begins now and ends on July 31. You can visit the following website to enroll and learn more about the eligibility requirements: www.zmsafety.com
