Center for Seniors to Move Downtown
After renovations are completed the Center for Seniors will have a new home in downtown Zanesville.
Muskingum County Officials announced Tuesday that they purchased the Zanesville City Schools Administration Building on fourth street for $475,000. Commissioner Jim Porter hopes to hire local contractors for the project. Executive Director of the Center for Seniors Ann Combs is excited for the move after the levy to build a new center failed in May.
“The voters spoke, that levy failed and this is ‘plan b’ to move forward with finding a location that will be owned by the county and be maintained by the agency and to be able to move forward to secure that senior services will be a permanent fixture here in Muskingum County,” said Combs.
The senior community has spoken with Porter about their hopes for their new center and one senior Phyllis Stevens said she’s excited to move to the downtown area.
“We have a lot of things going on down there,” said Stevens. “There’s a lot of things, you can just walk around the area for a couple or three hours,” said Stevens.
All involved hope to finish renovations and move to the new center before the lease for the current center expires in August 2016.
