A Leslie Cope Original Housed on National Road

A Leslie Cope painting has found its home at the National Road Zane Grey Museum.

The oil painting was housed at the downtown branch of PNC bank prior to the closing of the branch. PNC gave the painting to the Muskingum County Community Foundation who thought there was no better place than the Zane Grey Museum to display the work of art.

“We’re going to keep it here as long as the museum wants to have it here,” said CEO of MCCF Brian Wagner. “This is the home, we feel it’s the right place for the painting to be so we’re going to keep it here. ”

The realism depiction of Main Street at the turn of the century is the only one of its kind fully intact. PNC, the Community Foundation, and the National Road, Zane Grey Museum hosted the unveiling today. Regional President for PNC Michael Gonsiorowski said they’re happy to more than just banking for the local community.

“We’re a big strong financial institution but we realize we’re only as good as how we deliver service in the communities where we do business,” said Gonsiorowski. “If we can do a little something like this to help the community maintain it’s history it’ll be good for the community, good for us. ”

The painting can be seen just as you enter the museum.
