Summer Reading Program Off To A Great Start
The County’s Summer Reading Program is underway and the Library System is looking for readers to join in the fun!
Assistant Director of the Muskingum County Library System, Blair Tom said they have just started week two of six. Tom told us they have close to two thousand readers enrolled as of last week. Tom explained more about how the program works.
“You register for summer reading. Set your goal, how many books you are going to be able to read during the period that you’ll be able to participate and that doesn’t have to be the entire six weeks.” said Tom, “As you report books you earn prizes and incentives donated by area businesses and partners and when you reach your goal you select a free book and have more incentives and prizes.”
Tom said the Library System hopes to have thirty two hundred children and teens read and report one hundred thousand books. Tom explained the program offers a lot of different benefits to those who partake which include reading during the summer months and engagement and critical thinking in STEM projects. Readers also get to experience interaction with others. Tom said they have had a great response so far.
“Its been really positive. We see a lot of enthusiasm and interest. The entire family is engaged and they’re doing the program as a family so that’s very exciting and they’re very serious about their goals and really excited to share with us how they’re doing.”
The age groups range from zero to grade five for the children’s program and six through twelfth grade for the teen program. The Summer Reading Program wraps up July 25th. Tom said you can register to take part up until that date. You can learn more about the program or register at any of the Muskingum County Library Branches.
