New 911 System Coming To Zanesville
Zanesville City Council held their second meeting of June Monday evening.
An ordinance was passed that allows the city to enter into contract with CMI to purchase a 911 system for the Police Division. Public Safety Director, Fred Buck told us more about some of its features.
“The biggest thing is the new software. The new computers.” Said Buck, “They should be able to text in our calls, you know, we’ll be able to take texts, but also probably GIS later will come with this system.”
The new system may also have video support as well, although those details are still to come. The cost of the system is one hundred fourteen thousand, four hundred and fifty dollars. Buck said one hundred thousand of it was paid for through the County 911 System Committee. Buck told us about some of the problems with the old system.
“It’s out of date. It’s no longer supported by any type of maintenance agreement which is killer when you start talking systems of this type.”
Buck said they new system will be of great benefit to the community. He said they hope to have the new system up and running within 60 days.
