Zane State Holds Manufacturing Camp
A Manufacturing Camp is taking place this week at Zane State College.
The camp is geared towards junior high students. Sales Representative for the Center for Work Force Solutions and Entrepreneurships at Zane State College, Katie Schafer, gave an overview of the happenings.
“We do a tour every day of the local manufacturers so it gives them an exposure to whats all here. A lot of people, even adults, don’t know what all manufacturers and whats all made here in Zanesville.”
An activity is also completed each day that is themed around engineering. Schafer explained some of the goals of the camp.
“Basically to start to get kids this age interested in both advanced manufacturing and STEM careers.” said Schafer, “It is to let them know what is available to them. A lot of people think and especially a lot of kids think there’s only maybe one path for them after they graduate high school. So if we start them in junior high and realize that there are local manufacturers that offer good jobs and there are programs at Zane State College that can get them into some of these jobs.”
The Zanesville camp began Monday and will run through this Friday. The cost to attended was sixty dollars a child. A State wide camp called, “Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs” through the Office of Sherrod Brown assisted the camp financially.
