Zanesville Crews Tackle Potholes with Durable Repairs
ZANESVILLE, OH – Road repairs are underway in Zanesville as city crews work to fix potholes around town.
Zanesville city crews have been out across the area repairing potholes using a method called the “hot box.” Unlike traditional cold mix repairs, this method uses hot asphalt, which creates a stronger bond with the existing pavement and makes the repairs last longer, so crews don’t have to revisit the same potholes multiple times.
“We have two crews working on that when the weather allows. If we have a lot of potholes, sometimes we do use a cold mix also. Although, what we have found over the last five years since we’ve increased the paving program on streets and especially alleys, is we are not having the major potholes we’ve had in the past,” Zanesville City Mayor Don Mason said.
The city encourages residents to report potholes, broken streetlights, and other maintenance concerns so crews can address them as quickly as possible.
“I do encourage people whether there’s a streetlight that is out, a pothole they see, a developing pothole, or a waterline break. A lot of times very cold time periods as well as very hot time periods cause movement of the Earth which will cause waterline breaks. Again, they should still call the city of Zanesville for any of those circumstances, and we’ll get right on it,” Mayor Mason said.
