New Items Available at Downtown Farmer’s Market

Peppers, garlic, and carrots are some of the new featured items at the Downtown Farmers Market.

The market kicked off in June, and local farmer, Kristen Baughman, said the rain isn’t slowing her down.

“It’s hard to get in the field when its wet to pick, but we’re out there tromping around in the mud, picking things,” she said. “It’s a little hard when it rains during Farmer’s Market because people don’t like to come out and shop, so then you’ve got this problem of a lot of vegetables and no one to sell them to, so it’s been a little tricky this year, but we’re still here every week.”

In spite of all the wet weather, Baughman said business is progressing. She said the wide variety of home-grown produce brings customers back each week.

“Everything I grow, I sell within 10 miles of my farm, you can’t get any fresher than that, so you know where your produce is coming from, you know who grew it, how they grew it, and you can have a conversation with the farmer, and any questions you have they can answer,” she said.

Baughman hopes to have fresh eggplant and tomatoes for sale in the coming weeks.
