Rockin’ on the River for a Good Cause

Zane’s Landing Park will come alive Saturday for the much anticipated, “Rock on the River.”

The now empty park will soon fill with people for a 12 hour rock and roll concert benefiting, Mary Sherfy, a local woman battling lung cancer. The event starts at noon, and organizer, Gayle Gardner, said 10 bands will keep the crowd entertained.

“It’ll be a full day of music, we’re also going to have food for donation, so if anybody wants to bring a side-dish to contribute, we’d appreciate that,” Gardner said. “We’re also going to going to have a lot of donations from local businesses, and a lot of different community members that have donated different things, so we’re going to have those for silent auction, raffle, we’re going to have 50/50, things of that nature, so it’ll be a whole day of festivities and rock n’ roll.”

Sherfy is in remission, currently undergoing radiation and chemo, but hopes to come out and enjoy the festivities. Sherfys son, David, said she is blown away by all of the community’s support.

“She’s going to try to make it here tomorrow, depending on how she feels. She’s doing all right she can still do some of the things she used to be able to do, it’s just the chemo that makes her tired, it wears the body down,” Sherfy said. “She’s excited about it, she’s kind of amazed by how many people coming out and supporting it, she gets a little emotional about it.”

The event is free and open to the public. For a full list of bands performing, visit the “Rock on the River’s” Facebook page.
