‘Ride for the Troops’ Hits the Pavement
A.B.A.T.E. Region two hosted its annual ‘Ride for the Troops’ July 18.
The poker run, chinese auction and merchandise sales will benefit veterans through the Fisher House in Dayton.
“It’s similar to basically the Ronald McDonald House except it’s for veterans and their families when they have to have things done and have stays over,” said Director of A.B.A.T.E. Jim Bown. “It’s for their benefit. This supports the people who are veterans. These are the people who have laid their lives on the line to make this country free and this is a way to give back to not only the veterans but their families. ”
The funds raised will also help A.B.A.T.E. (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education). The organization fights for the rights of motorcyclists. Bown said they hope to keep the road fair for cars and bikes alike.
“Other states that want to basically legislate motorcycles off the highway and A.B.A.T.E.’s fight for over 37 years has been a focus of making sure that any legislation [that] is proposed for motorcycles, is motorcycle friendly.”
The first bike went out at 11:00 a.m. this morning and the last bike was out at 1:00 p.m. All were back for live music and food after 5:00 p.m. this afternoon. A.B.A.T.E. hopes to raise $2,000 for the Fisher House, which could maintain operations for four days.
