Rosecrans Searching for Football Coach
Correction: New Albany’s mascot is an Eagle, not a Golden Bear.
The official start of high school football across the state is less than two weeks away, but the Rosecrans Bishops are looking for a permanent head coach. Jay Campbell resigned from his post earlier this month for an opportunity at New Albany.
Campbell confirmed with WHIZ that he has accepted a position as the head freshman coach for the Eagles. He will also serve as the varsity offensive line coach and teach at the middle school.
Campbell previously coached at New Albany in 2010 before making the move to Zanesville.
“It’s a move that I felt for myself and for my family moving forward, I couldn’t possibly pass up,” he said.
Campbell added that breaking the news to the Bishops wasn’t easy.
“It was tough on them. Not a decision I took lightly,” he said.
Rosecrans went 2-18 in two seasons under Campbell’s watch. A replacement has not been announced. According to a job posting on the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s website, Rosecrans athletic director Tony Coury was accepting applications for the position from July 13-18.
