Muskingum University Student Charged In Death of Her Baby
Muskingum County Prosecutor Mike Haddox says a former area college student under investigation into the death of her female baby has been indicted by a grand jury.
Haddox says 20-year-old Emile Weaver of Clarington, Ohio, a Muskingum University sophomore, now faces multiple charges including aggravated murder, abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence and purposely causing the death of another under 13 years of age in the death of her baby on April 23rd. The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office says they were contacted by Muskingum University Police requesting assistance with a report of a newborn baby that had been found dead on campus.
The Muskingum County Coroner ruled that the baby was alive at birth and that it had been found by authorities in a tightly closed plastic bag in a trash receptacle. Dr. Feicht ruled that the baby died from asphyxiation. If Weaver is convicted of the charges against her she will face life in prison with no parole. She remains in custody in the Muskingum County Jail.
She will be arraigned on Wednesday, July 29th at 11 a.m. in Common Pleas Court. Prosecutor Haddox says he does not believe anyone else will be charged in this case
This is not the first time this type of incident has happened at Muskingum University. 12 years ago student Jennifer Bryant was convicted of killing her baby and was sentenced to 7 years in prison. She was released by then Muskingum County Common Pleas Judge Butch Zwelling after serving only seven months.
