Muskingum Recreation Center to Dedicate Gynasium

The Muskingum Recreation Center will dedicate the gymnasium this August.

The gym will be formally known as the ‘Fred Taylor Memorial Gymnasium’ after August 27. Fred Taylor is a native of Zanesville, Ohio and member of the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame. Executive Director of the Recreation Center Beth Chapman said MRC is thrilled to name their gymnasium after the Ohio legend.

“He just was a good coach, very good person and the important thing is how he led his teams were just amazing,” said Chapman. “He wasn’t your typical coach that did a lot of yelling, did a lot of cursing. He was completely opposite. ”

Muskingum Recreation Center will host a dinner and program on the night of the dedication. They have already reserved over 30 tables for the event. Three special guests will stop by to speak about Taylor.

“We have Bill Hosket as the emcee,” said Chapman. “Bob Knight, Jerry Lucas, and John Havlicek, all who played for Fred Taylor at Ohio State and we will have them up speaking about how Fred Taylor impacted their life.”

Those interested in buying tickets for the night can contact the Muskingum Recreation Center at (740)454-4767.
