2015 State Budget Calls for Increased Investment in Higher Education
Chancellor John Carey stopped by Zane State to discuss how the 2015 state budget will affect area students in higher education.
Carey said that in the past it has been difficult to increase funding for higher education because the demands of ‘K’ through 12 and Medicaid but while deciding on the budget this year, the state committed to improving higher education..
“With the collaborative efforts and the results that we’re seeing with performance funding at places like Zane State and OUZ, we saw an increased investment in higher education and I think they have an increased credibility,” said Carey.
Although the budget is in numbers, Carey said the important thing is the results that come from the schools and their students.
“It’s really not only the President but the staff and the students, the things that they’re doing, the innovations that they’re taking, that they’re leading that’s really making the difference,” said Carey. “We can provide the funding in Columbus. We can work with them but it’s really the people that are in the classroom teaching and the people that are working in the community that make the real difference. ”
A tuition freeze will also accompany the increased investment.
