Village Mayor Set to Retire
For close to 30 years, the village of New Concord has seen one mayor.
However, effective January 1, Greg Adams will retire after 27 years as the village’s mayor. He moved to New Concord in 1965 and has never left. He even graduated from the then named Muskingum College.
Seven years after graduating, Adams became the mayor. He said the village has been a great place to raise a family.
“The people in the community have been great, a great group and collection of people to help build the community and it’s been an interesting, at times, project, trying to keep those different moving parts, trying to move together best we can,” he said.”
Mayor Adams announced his retirement to the village council during a regular meeting Monday. While making the announcement, he said being mayor for so long has been an honor but that it is time for a new leader in the mayor’s office.
“What’s been interesting for us, we’ve been able to grow and change and thrive, but essentially not give up some of the essential character that has defined New Concord. It still feels like a small town community, even though we’ve had some annexations and some growth.”
Adams will serve out the remainder of his term. After which, he said he and his wife, Eileen, will stay in New Concord but do some more traveling, including trips to see his two daughters who now live in Maryland and in Colorado.
