Local Business Helps Kids Going Back to School

Back to school is right around the corner and one local business is helping kids start off on the right foot.

Employees at the Community Bank in downtown Zanesville stepped up to donate 112 pairs of shoes to “Lace up for Kids.” The bank has been donating to the shoe drive for the last four years, and branch Vice President, Cynthia Jackson, said each year the staff is challenged to contribute even more.

“We have surpassed our challenge the last two years, last year we had 110, this year we have 112 pairs of shoes, actually we did an extra fundraiser this year as an auction within the branch, and it went out to all of our branches and we’ve raised some extra funds that we were able to go out and buy 17 extra pairs of shoes,” Jackson said.

The fundraiser started almost 30 years ago, as a way to ensure every child in the community starts school with a new pair of shoes. “Lace up for kids” Co-chair, Sally Goins, said they’ve received more donations this year than ever before.

“It feels wonderful to know that the Community Bank, as well as many other organizations within our community are helping out this year again as they have, this the 28th year for ‘Lace up for Kids’ program that’s jointly sponsored by Wendy’s and WHIZ Media Group, and Eastside is the administrator of that group and we are thrilled to death with the contributions that Community Bank is making,” Goins said.

Those registered for “Lace up for Kids” can pick up their shoes on August 13, at the Zanesville Civic League.
