Chinese Artists Share Work with American Audience

Twenty six Chinese artists came to share their work with all in attendance at the Zanesville Museum of Art August 4.

The art workshop included a demonstration by the artists and then the crowd was given a brush and the opportunity to try what they learned. Professor of Art at Muskingum University Yan Sun brought his friends from Lanzhou, China  in order to connect people from his two hometowns.

“I tried to make the bridge.. the bridge across the Pacific ocean from China to America, let people know each other and let them know what we do in the 21 century and also I really want to push some programs between these different cultures, from America to China.. from China to America,” said Sun.

Sun brought the artists not only to see what he calls the ‘real America’ in Muskingum County but to show those here in the U.S. this very unique art form.

“Most of them focus on the Chinese traditional paintings but they use the soft brushes, use ink and use water,” said Sun. “Now the water is not just to clean the brushes, the water is a medium of the Chinese painting. They use rice paper not just canvas. ”

The audience watched and asked questions. and Sun enjoyed the bonding between his friends from China and America.
