Local Retirement Community Gives Back

Pediatric patients at Genesis Hospital received a special gift Wednesday.

Over the last three years, residents of Primrose Retirement Community have been hand-crafting stuffed animal bears and delivering them all over the community as a special offering.

“We’ve given a lot locally, we’ve made about 350 three years ago, so I just decided about six months ago that we need to reach out to the community, the community has always been wonderful to Primrose, so everyone we’ve given bears to here in the community have embraced our effort,” said Tammy Grayson, Life Enrichment Coordinator at Primrose Retirement Community.

Fifteen Primrose residents work on the project and deliver the bears to different places in the community each month. From the first stitch, until the final ribbon is cut, Grayson said it’s a team effort.

“They love helping the community, every time their pictures appear in the paper or they’re on the TV at all they just think it’s fabulous, our average age that’s working on this project is probably pretty close to 90 years old, so they just get the biggest kick out of doing this,” Grayson said.

Grayson said the teddy bears are touching children’s lives, and that’s the most rewarding part.
