Students Participate in National Day of Action

ZANESVILLE, OH –April 1st marked National Day of Action, and once again, students from local schools are stepping up to raise awareness about tobacco prevention.

This week, students from Mid-East High School took to the streets of Zanesville, collecting tobacco litter and other trash .

Some of their bigger finds? Discarded electric vapes and cans. Their efforts not only help clean up the community but also raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco use.

Last week, students from West Muskingum collected 3.8 pounds of tobacco-related waste, and this week, the students at Mid-East continue the momentum. The school’s Drug-Free Club plays a major role in shaping student involvement. The club offers students the opportunity to resist peer pressure by saying no to vapes, cigarettes, and other substances. To remain active in the program, members participate in random drug testing.

The cleanup efforts are part of a larger movement to combat tobacco use and encourage healthy choices. Students from both schools are showing that small actions can lead to big changes.

These tobacco prevention efforts will continue in our community until April 23rd, giving students from other local schools a chance to make a difference.
