Kroger Day at the Muskingum County Fair
It’s the third year that Kroger and Christ’s Table will partner to give people cheaper admission to the Muskingum County fair while helping to feed others.
Wednesday, August 19, is Kroger Day at the fair. Between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. People can donate at least two canned food items in place of the normal $9 admission. Kroger’s head dairy clerk, Marti King, said it’s a way to help people and bring families together.
“It’s all about the family,” she said. “It’s about helping others. The big thing is just helping the community out and seeing what we can do to get others involved with it too.”
Last year, on Kroger Day, Christ’s Table received 6,400 canned vegetables. Executive director Keely Warden, said the event is a huge benefit to the organization.
“It’s amazing for us,” she said with a smile. “Normally we have to collect and collect and collect until we get 100 cans of green beans, but to be able to actually go back on the shelf and have 100 cans of green beans there to open is wonderful for our volunteers, and it’s really great for those that we serve because we’re now going to be able to serve a hot, fresh vegetable every day.”
Each day, Christ’s Table uses over 100 canned vegetables. Warden said donations from Kroger Day saves Christ’s Table between $2,000 and $3,000.
