Perry County Promotes A Safe Community
The Village of New Lexington Fire Department hosted a community lunch to share an important message Friday.
The efforts were through Perry County Safe Communities. The event was to promote community safety, but also to focus on the dangers of driving while impaired. Scott Ervin, Police Chief for the Village of New Lexington told us more about who is at risk of drinking and driving.
“We have a pretty wide range of age group there.” Said Ervin, “Some of the experiences that we’re actually coming up with now are from the mid thirty’s on up. ”
The efforts were funded through the Safe Communities Grant and guest speakers helped to spread the word. Perry County Sheriff, William Barker, also spoke and he told us he always enjoys being able to share such a life saving message to the community.
“Anytime I can get a message out there to tell people be responsible for your driving. You know, don’t drink and drive. Use a designated driver there.” Said Barker, “Make sure if you’re at a party, ask a friend to take you home if you’ve been drinking or anything like that. Any of those kind of helpful little tips like that, that people can do, we like to get them out.”
The event wrapped up at 1PM.
