Task Force/ZPD Drug Bust Sets Record

The fight against drugs hit high gear with this month’s drug bust that netted four pounds of methamphetamine.  It was an example of how the Muskingum County/Zanesville City Joint Drug Task Force works.  That Group includes the Zanesville Police Department Special Response Team, Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, US Postal Service, Ohio Organized Crime Investigative Commission/High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force and the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office.  Authorities say on Friday August 7th they seized the meth, six firearms, two vehicles and US currency.  As a result of the investigation 44-year-old Walter Lee Coffee of Zanesville was indicted on 19 counts which includes possession of drugs, engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and money laundering.  The bust happened at 924 Ayers Street.  Coffee remains in the Muskingum County Jail on $1,000,000 bond.   Authorities say the four pounds of meth that was siezed was the most ever in one bust in Muskingum County.
