On Thursday delegates from two art institutions gathered to celebrate the opening of their creative work stations at a downtown Zanesville building.

The unveiling ceremony consisted of a painting demo workshop for local artists followed by a conversation dinner with the Chinese delegates. Chair of the art department for the Xi’an Academy of Fine Art, Liu Xijie describes his personal style as an artist…

“For my personal style I focus on the Chinese tradition of technical. I combine my contemporary aesthetic ideas to create a personal style. My personal style is to focus on the life and make the balance of the nature and my soul.”

Owner of Yan Sun Art Museum and professor at Muskingum University, Yan Sun explains the vision he had a year ago and how he’s been able to change the art community right here in Zanesville.

“I’ve had a plan for a year, that I would bring the Chinese artists, the top artists to Muskingum county. I think Zanesville is great, a very good city. We have so many artist organizations and so many artists and we also try to have tradition for the artistic environment.”

Yan Sun says it was great to see the Chinese artists give their demonstrations today and then watch the local American artists do such a great job creating their own versions of the traditional work.
