“Kindergarten Here I Come”

Local kindergartners are now ready for the upcoming school year.

The Muskingum County Public Library System teamed up with Zanesville City Schools for their first ever “Kindergarten Here I Come” program. The John McIntire Library set the stage in Zanesville with activities to better prepare the children for the first day of school.

“The library and the Zanesville City School District are really excited to have several first-time kindergarten students joining us today, we have stories and activities about all the fun they’ll have in kindergarten their first day, and a couple of craft projects,” said Assistant Director, Blair Tom.

The library designed the program to help ease some of the anxiety that comes with the first day of school, for both children and parents.

The kindergartners even had the opportunity to practice boarding a school bus, which Tom said was the highlight of the day’s festivities.

“We’re going to have the opportunity for them to talk to a school bus driver and board a bus, and have their picture taken with a school bus driver, as well as some of the kinds of activities and stories and things they’ll be engaged in that first day of school,” Tom said.

With the success of Saturday’s event, Tom said the library looks forward to having more in the future.
