Zanesville Schools Back in Session
For the first time this school year, students entered the doors at Zanesville High School Tuesday.
Nearly 900 of them filled the halls and the classrooms. It wasn’t long before the typical first day issues surfaced. One student entered the office to say she couldn’t get her locker opened. Principal Garry Young said teachers are ready to get going.
"We’re just trying to take a positive outlook on everything again," Young said. "We’re trying to be more upbeat with the students. Try to have them enjoy the time in high school but also work with them, help them achieve what they need to to graduate and to succeed in whatever they want to do after they graduate from high school."
Young said the teachers and staff are ready to help students get into the groove of the school year.
"We want them to look forward to coming to school," he said. "We want to have them have a reason to come to school, so we feel if we give them a positive outlook with welcoming them in the doors when they show up everyday, they’ll have more of a reason to want to be here because they know we care."
As for first week activities, Friday night is the opening night of Football for the Blue Devils. The school will face off against rival Newark at Sulsberger Stadium. Before then, Young said there are rallies planned all week and a bonfire is planned for Thursday night.
