New Recovery Center Set to Open Next Week

It’s been months in the making, but Muskingum Behavioral Health is finally ready to open its first ever recovery house in the county.

A safe haven free of drugs and alcohol, it’s a place where men recovering from addiction will soon call home.

“The recovery residence is to support recovery, to provide a safe, sober place for people to live, they’re going to be having house meetings so that they can jointly talk about issues, as well as, just a bunch of guys sitting around chit-chatting, and being clean and sober,” said Steve Carrel, CEO of Muskingum Behavioral Health.

The nation is amid one of the worst drug epidemics in history, and the house provides a healthy environment for those wanting to make a change. The residence, located at 1448 Euclid Avenue is divided into four separate apartments, combining older Victorian charm with a new modern feel.

“We started in December, we received a grant from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, purchased the property and then began renovating, actual renovations started about late January, and it’s just been a push all the way through to get it done,” Carrel said.

Two tenants are expected to move in by September 1. Carrel said those interested in applying must contact Muskingum Behavioral Health.
