Dinner on the Farm for Hunger

Community members gathered this weekend at McDonald’s Farm for dinner and a good cause.

The first ever ‘Dinner on the Farm’ event is geared toward helping those in our local area learn more about local eating and to benefit those who still live with hunger.

“It aligns with the goals of the Farm Bureau,” said Organization Director Kari Burkey. “Our mission is to forge a partnership between farmers and consumers so doing an event like this allows us to bring community leaders and consumers out to the farm and have an event and enjoy a dinner to where they can tour the farm and then also enjoy a lot of food that is from local farmers in the area. ”

The event began at 5 p.m. with a walking tour of McDonald’s Farm. Local businesses like the Tree House and Weasel Boy Brewery as well as many more stopped by to offer appetizers and beverages before the dinner began.

“We were a little slow initially getting people’s interest and then it really took off and we are sold out and have had a waiting list for the last four or five days so we’re hoping this is something that can become an annual event,” said Burkey.

Dinner started just after 6 p.m. and silent auction winners were announced, followed by dessert. The event raised more than $7,000 for the Muskingum County Hunger Network.
