ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Thursday morning the Muskingum County Commissioners met with Robert Smith, the Court Director for the Muskingum County Juvenile Court, to discuss purchasing new vehicles.

Smith said that the department is looking to add two or three much need vehicles that would be used by probation officers. Thursday he sought the Commissioners approval to redistribute money to help purchase the vehicles.

“We have an opportunity to move some money around on the books to purchase some much needed vehicles for our probation department. What we want to do, and we asked the Commissioners for their blessing, was to move one of our employees who is currently on our county budget onto a budget that is paid by the department of youth services,” said Smith.

Smith said they hope to purchase one vehicle this year and another at the start of 2017. Smith said the vehicles they have now are outdated.

“The vehicles are assigned to probation officers and they use them to perform their daily duties that they use to visit schools, treatment centers, and other places involving probation officers,” said Smith.

Smith said he received all three commissioners approval at Thursday’s meeting.
