ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Saturday evening the Zanesville Devilettes held their 50th anniversary reunion at Zanesville High School.
The Devilettes were started in 1966 to cheer at the Blue Devil football and basketball games. Almost 200 former Devilettes gathered at ZHS for their reunion. Wayne Carpenter founded the group and said he was pleased with the turnout.
“I started the Devilettes in 1966 as an outlet for girls to participate in,†said Carpenter. “At that time there wasn’t many activities for girls and they were wanting things to do,†said Carpenter.
There were Devilettes from 21 different states and from every graduating class except for three. Cindy Linn was a member in the 1970s and said it’s something she still cherishes.
“My favorite part was and still is the friendships that I have made. Not just a lasting friendship with Mr. Carpenter, but also all the people I was in Devilettes with. To still see these people, they are still a part of my life,†said Linn.
The Devilettes performed Friday night at Zanesville’s football game. A win for the Blue Devils.
