Free lunch for first responders at the Y

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – For the 5th year AmeriCorps has held a free lunch for first responders in the area.
Members from Zanesville Fire Department and Zanesville Police, along with volunteer firefighters throughout the county, were invited to the free meal at the Muskingum Family Y. Christy Rahrig with AmeriCorps said it is the least they could do to show their gratitude.
“This is basically our chance to give back to those who give so much of their time protecting and serving the members of our community. So we are hosting a free lunch for them to stop by and eat,†said Rahrig.
Rahrig said they hope to serve 150 meals Sunday at the Y. Several local restaurants and business donated to make the lunch possible.
“At the ten year anniversary of 9-11 the AmeriCorps in this area wanted to do something special so they initiated doing a first responder recognition lunch since first responders played an integral role in saving countless lives in the after math of the 9-11 terrorist attacks,†said Rahrig.
Rahrig said they hope to put on the event next year.
