Orofino Speaks Out on Water Main Breaks

About two weeks ago a water main break took place on Maple Avenue in front of Florafino’s Flower Market.
Traffic was restricted to one lane during the process of the other lane being repaired and many businesses have suffered because of it.
Greg Orofino, Owner at Florafino’s Flower Market, said that after the recent water main break, he wanted to speak out on behalf of the business on Maple Avenue from the recurring water main issues.
“It really needs to be changed and somebody’s got to speak up about it,” said Orofino. Â “Council can’t know everything. Â We have all these guys working on the road doing a great job and putting their lives in danger because of all of the traffic going up and down maple. Â We need to figure out a way to get this done.”
Andrew Roberts, Executive Director of the Muskingum County Planning Commission said that since 2014, there has been 7 water main breaks between the area of TeeJays on Maple and Adair Avenue. Â Roberts said that the city is planning on taking care of the problem as soon as possible.
“We discussed the issue at the public service committee meeting and it was brought up that its in the capital improvement plan,” said Roberts. He said that it’s currently number three on the list.
“We are looking at whether or not we want to leave it there or if we want to move things forward so that we can get it taken care of.”
Roberts says the water main lines on that section of Maple Avenue are scheduled to be replaced in 2018.
